Tiny boy in a big bed

So operation "Big Boy Bed" is going pretty well...three nights now, and he's fussed a bit going to sleep (needs extra songs, checkins) but then he's slept all through the night and hasn't been running all around.  Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself there.

He looked so cute this morning that we took a couple of pics of him on the phone before we woke him up.  Here's also evidence of the party hair he gets from sleeping.

Jack's new room

We started the process of converting the old guest room to Jack's new "big boy" room in May, since his old room is so perfectly suited to being a baby's room.  We've had new windows and a new door installed, then John installed all new trim and baseboards.  We had the electrical updated (an unexpected thing, but it was worthwhile in the end) and John has patched the walls and painted a new, softer blue.  Finally, my contribution, the shopping, came into play (with a very appreciated great deal of help from Nana and Stew-thanks!!) and we got new furniture, linens, window treatments, and a rug.

Monday night was the maiden voyage for Jack sleeping in his "big boy" bed...he was excited at first, but then within about 15 minutes was standing pathetically by the door, all of his stuffed animals and blankies with him, saying "sleep in crib?"  I laid down on the bed with him until he fell asleep (about an hour) and then he slept all through the night! Yay!  Tonight we tucked in him in, and, fingers crossed, it seems like he went down without too much fuss.

We're so pleased with how the room turned out.  We got to keep the queen sized bed (I know, sorta ridiculous, but now guests can still sleep in Jack's bed) and his room looks great!  Now just need to finish the few "punch list" items we have and hang some more things on the walls and we're done!  Thanks, John, for all your hard work.

Dinosaurs are scary

Becky and Jack went to the zoo today. Jack wanted to see the dinosaurs again. The Dinosaurs Alive! exhibit is showing and they have full- sized plastic dinosaurs that move slightly and make sounds like elephants. Jack was a little overwhelmed; he didn't uncover his eyes til they were out of the exhibit.

There's a song that they sing at Jack's daycare about a firetruck. The lyrics are:
"Firetruck, firetruck.
I want to ride on a firetruck..."

Here's a video of Jack singing his own version of the song. We're working on his enunciation.

Spirit Light Photography

Our other big favorite at the art fair was Spirit Light Photography

Jim Becia's photographs were show stopping--they had an amazing graphic quality to them and the detail and color were astounding. We went back on Sunday and purchased a few prints (specifically among them "Winter Aspens") and talked to him about his process. These were some of the most beautiful nature photographs we've ever seen.

John and I also enjoyed some Wisconsin frozen custard while sitting in the sun, listening to the Racine string quartet at the Art Fair.  Jack had a nap on Nana and Stew's boat.  Yay for summer, finally!

Beautiful Pottery

On our visit this weekend to Racine, we attended the Racine Monument Square Art Fair near the Marina.  While it was overall a good juried art fair, a couple of artists really stood out.   One of them was the work of Teresa Wooden of Wild Hare Pottery.  Her Hare Bowl was just breathtaking, but a bit too rich for our blood, so we brought home a little bird pitcher that we want to use as “un pichet” for wine, etc. like we used in France.  We really love it.  The pictures of her bowl and the pitcher we bought are below!  Check out her work at Wild Hare Pottery

Morning maid service on the boat

We're spending the weekend with Nana and Stew on the boat and got an early call from the cleanup crew. At least he's wearing the right hat!
